Woodlands Golf Course Opens in The Villages: First Look, Photos & Full Review

The Woodlands Golf Course The Villages is officially open, and I played it on opening week to bring you a full first look — including photos, course impressions, a gator sighting, homes being built right beside the cart path, and the complete scorecard.

First Impressions of Woodlands

Woodlands is a brand-new championship-style course on the southern edge of The Villages. The layout is open, very playable, and designed with wide fairways, large greens, and plenty of room for different tee levels.

Conditions were surprisingly good for a course this new — the greens rolled evenly, and the fairways already feel established. The course is still growing in, but it is absolutely playable and enjoyable right now.

Wildlife on the Course (Including a Gator)

One thing you’ll notice right away: the ponds already have wildlife. On one hole, we spotted a gator cruising along the edge of the reeds — a classic Florida golf moment.

Homes Already Going Up Beside the Cart Paths

One of the most surprising things you’ll see: new homes are being built extremely close to several fairways and cart paths. In some spots, construction slabs are just steps away from play areas.

It’s very similar to what we’ve seen at other new southern courses — and these homes will have incredible course views once completed.

The Opening Hole at Woodlands

Woodlands opens with a par 4 that gives you plenty of landing room. The tee areas are beautifully marked, and the course layout feels welcoming for a wide range of players.

Scenic Holes With Big Oaks

One of the standout features of Woodlands is the use of large, mature oak trees. They give certain holes a classic feel and contrast nicely with the open, links-style stretches.

Facilities, Practice Area & Starter Shack

Woodlands has a clean, modern starter building and a generous putting green right out front. It’s easy to check in, warm up, and head straight to the first tee.

Final Thoughts

The Woodlands Golf Course The Villages is off to a strong start. The wide fairways make it very friendly for everyday golfers, while the length and layout give better players plenty to work with. With scenic water views, wildlife, and rapidly growing neighborhoods nearby, Woodlands is going to be a popular spot quickly.
