The Villages Development Update: McNeill Drive, Legacy Place, and Recreation Centers

There weren’t any major announcements this week, but this Villages construction update covers several projects across the southern end of The Villages that continue to make steady progress. Here’s what we noticed during our latest drive through the area.

This Week’s Villages Construction Update: McNeill Drive Nears Opening

One of the questions we hear most often is, “When will McNeill Drive open?”

While there’s still no official opening date, the road appears to be nearing completion. The first layer of asphalt is now in place, with the final surface still to be applied before traffic can use the roadway.

McNeill Drive begins near Central Parkway, east of Eastport, and initially runs east toward the Legacy Place area. It then turns south and continues along the eastern side of Eastport toward County Road 470.

Once open, it will create another connection between County Road 470, Central Parkway, Legacy Place, and the surrounding neighborhoods.

The golf cart tunnels beneath the roadway have already been completed, providing future access between Legacy Place and nearby areas.

Legacy Place Continues to Take Shape

Just north of McNeill Drive, work continues across the future Legacy Place medical campus.

Most of the activity remains focused on infrastructure and site preparation, but the scale of the project is becoming more apparent as roads, utilities, and grading continue across the site.

When complete, the approximately 700-acre campus is expected to become a major healthcare destination for residents south of State Road 470.

Recreation Centers Continue Moving Forward

Construction also continues at both the Mustang and Pullman Recreation Centers.

Mustang remains on track for its anticipated fall opening, while work progresses on Pullman, the railroad-themed recreation center planned for Eastport. Both facilities are becoming easier to recognize as construction moves forward.

Still No Official Word on the Eastport Grocery Store

The planned grocery store in Eastport remains one of the questions we receive most often.

As of this week, there still hasn’t been an official announcement regarding construction or an opening timeline. We’ll continue monitoring the project and share any confirmed updates as they become available.
