After golf on September 30, our group headed to R.J. Gator’s at Lake Sumter Landing for dinner. The suggestion that got us there: “Let’s go to the Lake Sumter Gators—it’s better than Brownwood.”
That was the preference of some in our group, so R.J. Gator’s Florida Sea Grill & Bar it was. It’s one of several restaurants at Lake Sumter Landing. On this visit, we found good food, generous portions, and okay service.

Dinner at R.J. Gator’s Lake Sumter Landing
Our table ordered chicken pot pie, a quesadilla, shrimp over onion strings, a chicken wrap with fries, soup, and a large salad topped with chicken. Overall, the food was good, and there was plenty of it.
First, the chicken pot pie looked like a hearty comfort-food meal. Meanwhile, the quesadilla filled much of its plate, while the chicken wrap came with a substantial helping of fries.
Even the salad was a substantial meal, with plenty of chicken on top. In short, generous portions were a consistent part of what we saw at our table.
Choices for Different Appetites
The menu’s variety helped with a group coming off the golf course wanting different things. For example, there were lighter options alongside burgers, seafood, and more filling dishes like the pot pie.
Prompt Seating and Quick Food
We were seated promptly, and the food came out quickly. Both were especially welcome after golf.
However, service overall was okay. It wasn’t the standout part of the visit, but we appreciated getting our meals without a long wait.
Would I Go Back to R.J. Gator’s Lake Sumter Landing?
Yes. Above all, based on this dinner, I’d be happy to return for the good food and generous portions.
Still, some in our group prefer this location to Brownwood. That’s their assessment; this visit alone isn’t enough for me to make that comparison. If you want to weigh it yourself, here’s our Gator’s Dockside Brownwood review.
