If you’ve been keeping an eye on what’s happening around The Villages lately, you’ve probably noticed there’s a lot going on.
ALDI opens this week at La Plaza Grande. Eastport continues moving closer to becoming a real town center. Plans are also moving forward for another fire station near the growing Meggison area.
Here’s what stood out this week.
ALDI Opens This Thursday
After months of construction, ALDI will open Thursday at La Plaza Grande.
The new store gives residents another grocery option on the north side of The Villages near Spanish Springs. Based on the interest online, opening day could draw a sizeable crowd.
If you’ve never been to an ALDI grand opening before, expect a busy parking lot and plenty of curious shoppers.
If you’ve never shopped at ALDI before, you can view store information and weekly specials on the official ALDI website.
Eastport Is Starting to Feel More Real
One question we continue to hear is simple: “What’s happening with the grocery store in Eastport?”
The short answer is that there’s still no official announcement.
If you’re trying to keep track of what’s planned for the area, our Eastport guide contains the latest businesses, construction updates, and confirmed announcements.
The project continues to move forward. Workers cleared the former staging area, removed the trailers, and completed much of the exterior work on several buildings.
Interior build-outs are next. That phase often takes longer than people expect.
Businesses previously identified for Eastport include a breakfast restaurant, a Mexican restaurant, and Oak & Stone.
There’s still plenty of work ahead, but Eastport is beginning to feel less like a construction site and more like a future town center.
Another Fire Station Is Planned Near Meggison
As development moves south, emergency services are expanding alongside it.
Officials plan to build Fire Station 50 near Rooster Way and County Road 470. The site sits close to existing neighborhoods and future development areas.
The project may not generate the same attention as a new restaurant or grocery store. Still, it plays an important role in supporting the area’s growth.
Construction Continues Across the Southern Villages
Drive through Merrittfield or Long Prairie and it’s hard to miss the amount of construction taking place.
Builders continue adding new homes. Crews are also working on Pullman Recreation Center and Mustang Recreation Center.
For anyone wondering whether development is slowing down, there isn’t much evidence of that right now.
Fourth of July Plans Are Starting to Take Shape
The Villages hasn’t released its full Independence Day entertainment schedule yet.
Nearby Wildwood is already preparing for its annual fireworks celebration at Millennium Park. City officials have described this year’s event as their biggest fireworks show yet.
That could make it one of the more popular nearby options for residents looking to celebrate the holiday.
More Fourth of July announcements should arrive in the coming weeks. We’ll continue keeping an eye on them as details become available.
We’ll also continue tracking new businesses, restaurant openings, Eastport developments, and other changes happening around The Villages this summer.
